Franklin Covey lime green leather planner review

I got nominated to be one of most artistic blog on philofaxy.com. There will be 7 more days before closing time!

Please go to philofaxy.com and vote “Aea”. That’d mean so much to me. Thanks

Now let me go to what my topic is about.

I just got another planner couple days ago. I’ve been expecting it for a very long while (about 2 weeks and a half to be exact). Since the lime green is the only color that I didn’t have, I was kind of having pretty high hopes for it.

I was pretty excited with my new desk that I just bought from Ikea yesterday. I didn’t even think about the new planner until my hubby came into the room and told me that the maid was picking up my package and handed it to my hubby. (Yes, we have a maid! LOL).

I was in awe. Many excitements came hitting me like a pang in my heart. It’s like an unboxing presents after Christmas in July!

I opened the box hurriedly and it revealed such a nice lime green binder. I wouldn’t say the color is exact bright lime green but it closed enough.

My desired lime green binder has to be very bright and light lime green. Anyway, this one serves a purpose of having a binder in light green color.

The look of my new lime green Franklin Covey on my new polka dot desk fabric tablecloth.. It looks just like X’Mas, don’t you think?

The clasp. Like I told you in previous blog that I’m a sucker when it comes to buckle. This one just grab my heart the minute I found her.
With the adjustable buckle, I can add as many inserts and stuffs as I desire to. Lovely!

The back side of the closure.
lime.3

A sneak peak of what look like inside.

lime.4

The front cover has 3 horizontal card pockets, a full-length zip compartment, and a full length pocket. Very many pockets just the way I love my binder to be.

lime.5

The leather flap to protect the rings from making marks on the inside leather. Very clever I must say.

I even reminded me of the famous Gillio Campagna that has a leather patch on the front.

lime.6

The massive rings measured about 30 mm from inside rings.

lime.7

The back has the Full Grain Leather 32552.116 embossed. This one is made in China.

lime.8

You may think this binder is just a normal one, nothing special. Now I give you more thing to rethink about.

Look! The whole rings can be taken out apart from the binder. This is the first time I see the binder with such a unique feature. I can change the binder by just sliding out of this one and insert into another binder. How easy is that?

lime.12 lime.9

The ring mechanisms are just perfect. I don’t have any problems with misalignment! Thanks goodness for another find that doesn’t break my heart.

You can notice the size of the rings up close.

lime.10

Now another reason why I told you this one was so different and very special.

It has a deep pocket running from front to back of the binder. It doesn’t have any cardboard or anything inside.
This binder is so flexible in a good way. It also reminds me of my new found love, Mr. Gillio (I’m calling it Mr. G from now on). The campagna in medium size has a full length pocket running around the binder similar to this one.

I don’t know who copied who, all I care is I like this feature.

lime.11

There are two loops!!! Yay!!! This planner answers everything I ever asked for.

The pen loops are elasticized. One in the front and the other one is in the back.

Review: Filofax The Original in Yellow

I just got a mail.
When I opened the package, it revealed a brand new Filofax The Original in yellow. The one I always dreamed of buying.

The package was kindly sent from Jess at the Ideas Network PR company from London, UK. It took about 2-3 weeks to get here. I was waiting excitedly to get it and one evening without even thinking, there he was the mailman handed me the white bubbled package.

When I tore open the package, I found a nice handwritten note from Jess and a blue tissue wrap. Many thanks dear…

FFori.2

The Original awaited me to explore, touch and sniff. The hard clear plastic cover wrapped around the whole front and back yellow binder all the way to the inside too.

FFori.3

The back side of the hard plastic cover. This model no longer comes with a classic thick black box like before.

FFori.4

When unwrapped the hard plastic cover, it revealed the yellow Original. The color is not to bright but not too muted either. Just the right shade of yellow that I dreamed of. The picture didn’t capture the true shade of yellow.  It’s a lot brighter and nicer in person. The above pictures were closer to the real shade.

FFori.5

The button is also in yellow covered with clear resin, which I think super charming and cute. The button is very pretty too.. It adds an identity to the binder.

FFori.6

The famous logo of the Filofax was embossed on the side. This one has two studs to secure the ring mechanisms. The hardware made this binder a little masculine.

FFori.7

On the back side, it’s plain but not that plain. It has a hardware to hold the strap in place.

FFori.8

The button

FFori.9

Inside the front cover, there is a long elastic strap. One from each side for pens. Also, there are two credit card pockets. So, I assumed the use of the middle strap was for a frequently use credit cards. it’s easier to slide in and out. I found the credit card pockets are quite hard to get my cards in or out. I just left them empty. I didn’t dare to stick any paper clips in since they could easily leave a dent or mark on the leather.

FFori.10

A closer look of the middle elasticized strap. I used this middle band for my frequently used card.

FFori.11

Inside rings and the flyleaf. I really like this union jack half of a UK flag as my dashboard.

FFori.12

Side tabs.
There are 6 side tabs. These are quite differently from previous cream tabs that usually come with other FF. I like the blue and teal colors of these tabs. They come with numbers from 1 to 6 instead of the pre-printed which I found them to be useless.

FFori.13

The back side has a long wide pocket and a narrow slot for a FF notepad.

FFori.14

It came with a frosted ruler

FFori.15

The inserts are just the normal papers (not cotton cream ones). There were from July 2013 to December 2014. So you don’t need to buy more refills by the end of the year.

FFori.16

Some note papers, to do pages, plain blank papers. The new thing here is the grid papers which are quite good for those who like to try out or people who liked to doodle.
FFori.18

The colored papers. There were 3 colors; pink, green and dark blue to match the page dividers.

FFori.19

The rings

There are good quality rings. However, I did find one ring that didn’t close properly.

I’m in the process of taming it to close tighter so it won’t catch any papers.

FFori.22

It’s small size rings about an inch wide.

FFori.24

The notepad came with this model. The pocket can only fit the Filofax notepad though.

FFori.25

You might not be able to slide other sizes of notepad in.

FFori.26

This review is loaded with pictures of my lovely new Filofax the Original.

I haven’t given her a name yet.

LEATHER

– The leather is quite thick and sturdy so it adds weight to the binder.
– The smell of the leather is super good. It smells so great. I love it.
– The leather is dyed to just the right shade of yellow. I always dreamed to own either bright yellow or orange. I finally found it.
– The corners of the binder may be bent or damaged easily so I must be very careful not to drop or rub it against hard surfaces
– The outside cover is smooth to the touch. I was a little concerned about it gets scratches easily. So far, I haven’t tried to do anything to test it though. I want it to look and feel nice as long as I can.
– The strap is too short. This makes it even more difficult to stuff inserts or even add more pens in.

DESIGN

– The design is not to fancy and not to loud. I like the button as a snap.
– It made of one piece of thick leather so it guaranteed to be quite sturdy.
– The snap strap is quite short so it doesn’t allow me to add a lot of papers or inserts.

RINGS

– It’s about an inch measured from the middle of the ring mechanism.
– It’s not big enough to hold a lot of pages. Those who love to carry a lot of papers and inserts may have a difficult time with the original.
– I found a gap on the fifth ring. I’m trying to tame it to shut tightly.

THE VERDICTS

– It’s worth the investment. This one might be a little expensive £60.00 but you get the good quality leather.
– There are eight colors to choose from especially for those who love colors. If I can save enough money, I’ll get another one in orange.
– It’s just different from the rest of the Filofax binders so it’s awesome!
– It’s not wide enough to hold Franklin Covey inserts since the tabs will stick out which make it hard to close. (I’ll have another review on this issue later 🙂

Filofax Adelphi Review

One of my most favorite Filofax is the Adelphi. I was lucky enough to get the last one and it’s in my fav color too!

Here she is!

20130528-130647.jpg

The cover is a diamond shape pattern.

20130528-130741.jpg

It has a snap closure. But when you open it too often, it got wrinkles on the clasp.

20130528-130854.jpg

There is a pocket inside the front cover with a Filofax logo embossed on the flap.

20130528-130952.jpg

20130528-131050.jpg

I got misaligned ring son the first 2 rings but somehow it got fixed. I guess it must be because of the shipping.

20130528-131139.jpg

This beauty has an elasticized penloop which is the best for all my chubby pens.

I name her Ms CoCo for the pattern and its cover! This Model is the best!

Filofax domino review

This is my third non-leather Filofax binder. I got it when Filofax UK had them on sale for 50% off. I also used a 20% duscount code. This one was super cheap compared to other leather filofax that I have.

Here is the picture.

image

This model has an elastic band as closure. The band make it shut tightly. I have no problems with things falling out or apart.

image

The elastic band was looped inside so I can’t change colors if I want to.

I hung an Hello Kitty charm in the band but this bindet is not metal-friendly. It left a dent mark on it. Just a wee bit but it’a big enough to bother me so I took the charm off tto protect my binder.

image

This binder doesn’t lie flat. I need to train it everytime I open.

Here is the inside. There are 4 card slots that big enough to slide in my credit cards!

image

And a wider slot down the bottom.

Here is the filofax logo…Pretty nicely embossed in a faux suede inside cover.

image

The rings are perfect. There is no gaps or unaligned rings. It also came with the fabric to protect the rings from making marks on the inside cover too.

image

The inserts come with July 2013 to December 2014. The papers are not the cotton cream ones. They’re thinner and most inks can easily bleed through.

image

They come with the usual inserts, pouch and a black ruler.

MATERIALS
– smooth PU (imitated leather feel)
– faux leather
– elastic band/pen loop

PRICE
– Regular price £24

COLORS
– deep pink
– black
– chocolate
– ultra violet
– violet

WEIGHT
– Lighter than most filofax binders when empty

CAPACITY TO HOLD PAGES
– 90% (no need to worry that you can’t snap close)
– 100% (this one can fit wider inserts like FC pages) but the pen loop will get in the way.

PEN LOOP
– Elastic and can slide a  big fat pen!
– just one though

VERDICTS
– Good quality for those who want to get to know a filofax.
– great for vegans who don’t want to use real leather binders.
– awesome for students who just starts school.
– Don’t invest in expensive binders! Start small and grow into a bigger collection!
– Use the binders or planners that suit your needs and have fun with it. Go for colorful planners if you ask me!!!
